Basketball Queensland (BQ), in partnership with our Associations and Clubs, host a number of coaching accreditation courses and events throughout the year.

BQ currently facilitate the Community, Club & Association accreditation and are working with BA to reinstate further accreditation pathways.

Upcoming Coaching Courses

Community Coach Course

Level of Coaching: Beginner basketball programs
Accreditation Process: Obtained via the SportAus Learning Portal
Prerequisites: No experience required

This is the first step in your coaching pathway and is designed to help prepare coaches across all sports for what to expect in their role. This is a minimum requirement within Basketball Queensland to coach at any level.

Coaching Clinics

Level of Coaching: All

BQ will regularly offer coaching clinics outside of accreditation courses to help our coaches better develop their knowledge.
Look out for clinics run before each State Champs! These Clinics will have high level presenters ranging from the professional level to the junior level.

New Year's Coaches Clinic: Each year Basketball Queensland holds a New Year's coaching clinic before the Under 18 State Championships to provide coaches from around the state for further development, focusing on a variety of coaching concepts from early offence to organising defence.

State Champs Clinics: Look out for clinics run before each State Champs! These Clinics will have high level presenters ranging from the professional level to the junior level.

Coaches Weekend November: A date will be finalised for the Coaches Weekend in November 2022. Multiple sessions will be open to attend with local and interstate presenters expected to present.

Community Coach Course (Level 0)

Level of Coaching: Aussie Hoops and Club
Accreditation: Community
Process: Click here
Prerequisites: No experience required

This is the first step in your coaching pathway and is designed to help prepare coaches across all sports for what to expect in their role. This is a minimum requirement within Basketball Queensland to coach at any level.

Club Coach Course (Level 1)

Level of Coaching: Club, Rep and School Competition
Accreditation: Club
Process: Full day course (5 hours) and Online Modules
Prerequisites: Community Coach Certificate

This is the first in person basketball specific accreditation in your coaching journey and touches on how to develop individual skills as well as basic team concepts. This is a minimum requirement to be a head coach at junior club/rep level. Club Coach Courses are run primarily by our local associations, and we recommend contacting your relevant Coaching Director if you'd like a course run near you.

Association Course (Level 2)

Level of Coaching: Junior Representative, Queensland State League (QSL), State Teams, NBL 1 North
Accreditation Process: Weekend course and an assessment
Prerequisites: Club Coach Accreditation (held for a minimum 12 months)

This is a more in-depth accreditation aimed at experienced coaches and includes presentations on advanced tactics as well as improving some of the on court competencies of a coach. This is a minimum requirement to be a head coach at senior rep level, NBL1 North and QSL, and QLD state teams. Association Coach Courses are hosted by BQ and are generally offered once or twice a year based on demand, typically in March & November (can vary).
