Emerging U15 Development Teams Return

Basketball Queensland (BQ) is pleased to announce the reintroduction of our Emerging Under 15 Team program in 2022 and congratulate the 40 athletes (four teams) and eight coaches who have been selected to compete at the Adelaide Invitational Challenge against Tasmania and South Australia Metro and Country in January.

The Emerging Under 15 program is a BQ initiative to aid the development of young athletes, continuing the development from the Future Development Program (FDP) and preparing athletes for future high performance teams.

“The Emerging Team program is a crucial piece of our high performance program in Queensland, simulating a State Team environment to prepare emerging athletes for future competitions,” said BQ’s General Manager of High Performance, Warwick Cann.

“We had a lot of success with this program in the past, inviting selected teams to travel and play in the USA, and now we’re excited to be able to offer a new interstate competition for these athletes after COVID interrupted our international tours.”

The Emerging Team program also serves as a development opportunity for Queensland coaches looking to step up to a State Team position. Our 2022 Emerging Team Head Coaches and Assistant coaches have all been selected from the BQ Aspire Coach program, and have benefited from both on and off court learning and development over the past year to prepare for this program.

The four Emerging Under 15 teams (QLD North and South, Boys and Girls) were selected from an original group of 60 players who were identified through FDP and the Under 14 State Championships by a selection panel.

The four teams will attend a predeparture from 10-12 of January before flying to Adelaide for the Invitational Challenge from the 13-16 next month.
