High Performance Coaching

Basketball Queensland (BQ) registers, educates, trains, accredits, and licenses all coaches who are active within membership clubs and Associations in Queensland with the intention of improving the quantity and quality of coaches of youth basketball and aiding athletes mental, physical and skill development.

As part of this process, selected coaches will be invited to participate in BQ's High Performance Program after they register as an “Aspire Coach” or apply for a State Head Coach position.

High Performance Programs

Apart from accreditation courses and their own coach self-development plan & with the endorsement from their association, registered “ASPIRE” coaches can also access HP development opportunities . This includes aspire workshops within the Basketball Queensland high performance programs and coaching responsibility in the following BQ high performance programs:

State Coach Aspire Program

Pathway to being an Assistant or Development State Team Coach

Each year Basketball Queensland (BQ) offers up to 52 State Team volunteer coaching positions (plus a number of Emerging Team coaching positions) to help coaches across the State further their development. All our assistant, development and emerging team coaches are selected from the State Coach Aspire Program.

The program involves a number of learning opportunities both on the court and in the classroom (via Zoom) with BQ committed to providing consistent education and bespoke workshops throughout the year for ASPIRE program coaches.

Along with this, coaches will be given opportunities to coach at BQ programs such as FDP, SPP and emerging U15 teams. This is the start of the pathway which will put coaches in a position to be on State Team staffs as Development Coaches, Assistant Coaches and potentially Head Coaches.

These volunteer coaching positions have served as an excellent development pathway for coaches aspiring to coach in the NBL1 and Australian National Youth Team level.

Register your interest for 21/22 High Performance Programs through the Aspire program.
